As the Team Manager of Eco-Runner Team Delft, you will hold the ultimate responsibility for the project and the state of the team. You oversee the team by keeping an overview of the entire project, overseeing the short-term and long-term planning and maintaining close contact with every team member. You will serve as the face of Eco-Runner, representing the team at presentations and to the press. You will keep a helicopter view of every aspect of the project to ensure successful decision-making.
Your core responsibilities are to keep the team motivated and foster strong collaboration between team members and departments. This requires solid people management and problem-solving abilities.
As the Project & Finance Manager you will have two primary functions within the team.
The Project Manager has the responsibility of ensuring that the car is finished in time. You will create and uphold the planning for each department and team member, setting and enforcing deadlines. It is important to keep track of both the technical and non-technical project elements, monitoring progress and intervening when necessary. The planning of the departments must be merged, adjusted and updated constantly to prevent disruptions.
As the Finance Manager you are responsible for keeping the project within budget. You will create the budget for every department and keep track of the money flow within the team. This consists of budgeting, accounting, making financial decisions and handling all orders.
Being Project & Finance Manager of Eco-Runner Team Delft offers a valuable opportunity to refine your planning and management skills, while gaining experience in the financial management of a complex and innovative project.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the car’s quality and performance. You will be involved in every technical decision and therefore have to be completely informed on the developments of the technical departments. You will oversee testing days and ensure safety of the team members.
As the Chief Engineer of Eco-Runner Team Delft you must have a broad technical understanding, working closely with the department Chiefs, who are the experts in their fields. You have to be critical regarding every design produced by the technical departments. In this role you will learn about all of the different technical aspects of building the car.
As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for communicating Eco-Runner’s vision and supporting the project’s non-technical aspects, which include marketing, sponsorships, events, public relations, design, and scalability. You will lead the Operations department in executing these tasks.
Your responsibilities include securing sufficient funding for the vehicle, managing partner relationships, and organizing presentations. You will also oversee press releases for major events, contribute significantly to Eco-Runner’s public presence, and handle the website and social media. Your goal is to introduce Eco-Runner Team Delft and its vision to as many people as possible. This role offers a broad learning experience across multiple disciplines that come with an innovative project like building the Eco-Runner.
The Body Department designs and produces the aerodynamic shell and the load carrying structures of the car. This makes the body the base of the car; every other subsystem is attached to the body. As the Chief Body, you will lead the Body Department. As a Chief, you are expected to keep a detailed overview of your department and the production process. Therefore, you will have to coordinate your department’s progress and be updated about other departments.
As the Chief, you will also be the contact person for the Chief Engineer and the Project Manager. You have to be able to answer their questions and you must make sure that the Body Department can uphold the quality demands of the Chief Engineer and the deadlines that are set by the Project Manager. You will not only learn about designing and producing the aerodynamic shell and structure of the car, but also how to lead and coordinate a team of engineers and communicate with other departments.
As Structures Engineer at Eco-Runner Team Delft, you will design the body of the next Eco-Runner from a structural point of view. You get to design the structural lay-out of the vehicle as well as the materials to be used. You will find the perfect balance between lowering mass while maintaining strength. This requires knowledge about structures and materials. You will ensure the structural integrity of the car’s structure by creating your own model and conducting analysis with state-of-the-art FEM software. During the process you will work closely together with companies in the field and learn from their expertise. While designing the structure you will work closely together with all the other engineering departments, as well as with the other body department members. On top of that you will be producing your own structure yourself!
As the Aerodynamics Engineer, you are responsible for the shape of the car. You will find an optimal shape for minimizing the aerodynamic resistance and then produce it yourself! Throughout this process you will be assisted by specialist CFD companies, so you can also learn from them and gain experience in this field. Once the production phase starts, you will be working together with other engineers in the Body Department to build the outside of the car.
The Body Production Engineer oversees the entire car production process, managing tasks such as material selection, production planning, collaborating with external companies, and securing production facilities. You will lead and ensure the successful execution of the entire production workflow. You will learn a lot about managing the production process and ensuring the feasibility or viability of the design.
The Vehicle Dynamics Department is responsible for the design, production, and testing of critical systems such as the front and rear suspension, braking system, steering system, and wheels. As Chief Vehicle Dynamics, you will lead the development of these subsystems in collaboration with the Vehicle Dynamics Engineers. During the design process, you will have the autonomy to determine your approach, enabling you to make the most effective design decisions. You will learn to balance various factors such as quality, manufacturability, weight, and cost to optimize your designs. To support this, you will take several technical courses to become proficient in machining techniques, including milling, lathing, and CNC milling. These skills will be instrumental during the production phase, as you transform your designs into reality.
In this leadership role, maintaining close communication with the Chief Engineer and Project Manager is critical. You will ensure that the Vehicle Dynamics Department operates efficiently and is well-organized, providing regular updates on progress and timelines. Collaboration with other engineering departments is important, to ensure seamless integration between subsystems.
